Frequently Asked Questions
← Back to MarketsWhat is Mirai BTC?
Mirai BTC is a non-custodial prediction market platform focused on Bitcoin's future upgrades. Users can place bets on whether certain Bitcoin soft-fork proposals will be activated by a specified date.
How do the prediction markets work?
Each market is a binary (Yes/No) prediction about whether a specific Bitcoin upgrade proposal will be activated by April 1, 2026. Users can bet on either outcome with fixed-odds payouts. If your prediction is correct, you receive a payout based on the odds at the time of your bet.
What does 'non-custodial' mean?
Non-custodial means that we never take custody of your funds. You maintain control of your bitcoin at all times except during the active bet period. You connect your Lightning wallet to place bets and receive payouts directly, without the platform holding your funds in a user account.
How do I place a bet?
To place a bet:
- Select a market and choose Yes or No
- Enter the amount in satoshis you wish to bet
- Connect your Lightning wallet
- Pay the Lightning invoice to confirm your bet
What is the Lightning Network?
The Lightning Network is a 'layer 2' payment protocol that operates on top of Bitcoin. It enables fast, low-cost transactions, making it ideal for micropayments and betting use cases.
How do I receive my winnings?
If your prediction is correct, you'll be able to claim your winnings after the market is resolved. Your payout will be sent directly to your Lightning wallet.
What are OP_CAT, OP_CTV, and OP_CSFS?
These are proposed Bitcoin opcodes (operation codes) that would expand Bitcoin's scripting capabilities. OP_CAT concatenates values on the stack, OP_CTV (CheckTemplateVerify) enables vaults and spending conditions, and OP_CSFS (CheckSigFromStack) allows signature verification against stack data rather than transaction data.
How are market outcomes determined?
Market outcomes are determined based on whether the specified Bitcoin upgrade proposal has been activated in the Bitcoin protocol by the deadline date (April 1, 2026).
What happens if the Bitcoin network forks?
In the rare event of a contentious chain split, the market outcome will be determined based on the chain with the highest proof-of-work, which is considered the main Bitcoin chain.
Is there a minimum or maximum bet amount?
The minimum bet amount is 1,000 satoshis. Currently, there is no maximum bet amount, but we may introduce limits in the future to manage risk.
